Better than chocolate

I must admit, as sweet as Ian has been with other little babies leading up to the days of Reagan's birth, I was very nervous about the first time they met. Would be be mad, jealous, indifferent and dare I say excited to see her. They day Ian met Reagan was a memorable one. He mosied into the room chewing on gum he charmed out of his grandmother every stride speaking of how he owned the place. Then seeing me in the bed he turns to something his daddy is holding in his arms.
"Ian, this is your baby sister," Tyler explains as he walks towards Ian holding the new bundle.
Ian seemed curious but still unimpressed. Tyler explains again, now right next to Ian, "you are a big brother...this is your baby sister Reagan.
Something tipped his mood then and he went to unimpressed to somewhat threatened and then annoyed by this new being.
Lisa, Ians grandma raises her voice another 10 octaves in an attempt to get Ian excited and reexplains what Tyler just said. Ian then immediately starts to say no to every question he is getting asked. He then is asks if he wants to hold her and again, he answers "NO"!
They visit then for another 30 minutes or so and Ian takes this time to spread his Spiderman pictures and toys all over the floor.
As they leave to get Reagan back to the nursery and let me rest, Ian asks.
"Let's get a different one, I want another one."
AS they leave I start to worry....crap, he is not going to like this new gal around, we are in for it.
The next day however is a different story. Ian and Tyler come in and Ian set up his stuff on the floor. Distracted, I begin to talk to Tyler about the day and Ian comes over to my food tray and finds the bar of chocolate that Tyler gave me the day before. He opens it up and begins to eat it but not before it melts all over his hands and face.
However when Daddy brings in the baby this time, Ian's attitude has changed.
With a mug and mitts covered in chocolate, he drops the bar asks to hold his sister. Smiling and cooing he sits on the sofa and holds little Reagan for the first time.
The next 2 days he enters the room not asking for gum or chocolate but to see his

Don't tread on me

One morning at 6am when I was thinking of how to entertain Ian while fighting off exhaustion for being woken up so early....I decided to print coloring pages for Ian of Batman and Spiderman.
We did some coloring that morning but after only working on a few pages, Ian stops the coloring and gets all possessive as I try to bring a red crayon to a picture of Spiderman.
"Mommy don't" Ian scolds.
Next thing I know he is picking up his pictures to keep me away from them.
Later that day Ian spreads the pictures around him and when he wants to get away to play with other toys, he gingerly wants around them as not to disturb them. He also keeps the pile together and bring it with him when we go anyway. He takes it to the grocerie store, the pool, when visiting friends or school. Once he arrives anywhere, he likes to spread them out around him or line then up to admire them. In the car while he holds them if I take a sharp turn ans the pics get shoveled, he will yell, "Stop it Mommy....my pictures!"

Ian's Second Birthday

It has been almost 6 months since Ian's birthday and a lot has happened in that time frame. Our house is on the market....we sold it and then our buyers....buyer....buyer fell through so we went back on the market and with little time to spare since I am having a baby girl on Aug 3rd. We are naming her Reagan Klien and Can't wait to meet her though I am nervous about heving a C-section and the whole recovery thing. Becca is getting married on July 31st and I am doing her cake. The next few weeks have been hectic as we redo our basement and we get ready for Reagan to come home. Ian is getting the Idea that there is a reason my tummy keeps getting bigger but I still feel that bringing the baby home will be a shock.

Private Shaw

On afternoon during a Sunady at a traditional Dinner at the Shaw's Ian's hair was looking like he stuck his finger in a socket. Hours earlier, Tyler had styled it with palmande but after Ian ran his fingers through it a few dozen times it was disshevled to say the least. So while Tyler was on the phone to a good friend and very much absored Charlie mentioned that he had some clippers upstairs and that we could trim it. I said well my sister, the Aveda insitute grad was coming to town. But in my mind I thought ah....it will be another 3 wks. So I said ahhhh well lets go ahead. Well we set the clippers to be like a 4 inch trim but we were not getting much result so we switched to a much shorter setting. It was a choppy job and then in 5 minutes and with multiple clumps on the floor Charlie realized that he had the clipper gaurd on wrong so he put in on right and we started hacking away a again. I started to visualize now what was happening...his hair, the lovely gold locks thay hung like a halo around his head was now a mini haystacks piled around the bathroom tile. When Ian came down from upstairs for the grand reveal, Tyler was less then impressed. He was was heavily absorbed in his phone call minutes before was now paying full attention to what he thought of was a marked tragedy in Ian's life.
The next day at dinner with Jenn and Jesse's, Tyler's opinion was echoed buy everyone.
"What happened to his hair" were the exclamations.
BEFORE PICS ARE BELOW...

early Christmas gifts to all.

Halloween 2009

This is the first Halloween that Ian went trick or treating. My Good friend Jen and I went together and this time in my neighborhood. I am not sure why I thought that would be a good idea since the houses in her area are much closer together and less leg work. None the less she and her family came over at 5pm for chili dinner and witty reparte'. After lickin' the cumin off our lips, we got Hailey and Ian in their costumes and hit the streets. Before we left Ian grabbed about 6 butterfingers. I am not sure if this is because he senced that we were not going to let him eat any candy so he grabbed what he could before we left. Hailey who was dressed up as "Swiper" was a total champ. She walked the whole way from house to house and say, Ticki Too which translates to "trick or treat" to each door greeter. Ian on the other hand sat silent from his strollertaking it all in. So nobody gave Ian any candy, I guess they thought since he was in the stroller he didn't count and and basically ignored my little devil. Ah well, Tyler and I would not let him eat any of the candy anyway so it was just as well. Finally, for the last 3 houses Ian climbed out of the stroller and took to the streets hand in hand with Hailey. So see those two together holding hands in the dark night under the street lamps was too much.
